Interpreting Process

• Deaf Interpreters who participated in focus groups held in 2007 were asked to describe their internal process of interpreting. They describe the following elements of the process:
• Analysis of source language message/discourse
• Mental representation of meaning
• Construction and production of equivalent message in a form intelligible to the consumer
• Management of information flow
• Monitoring of comprehension
