Deaf Interpreters who participated in focus groups held in 2007 were asked to describe their internal process of interpreting. They describe the following elements of the process:

Analysis of source language message/discourse

Mental representation of meaning

Construction and production of equivalent message in a form intelligible to the consumer

Management of information flow

Monitoring of comprehension
